The opening round of the first Triple A tournament of 2026 delivered a real test for players as the Triple A European Invitational got underway at the iconic Real Club Sotogrande.

What began as a promising morning quickly turned into a challenging afternoon, with increasing wind and spells of rain making scoring more difficult as the day went on. As conditions worsened, staying patient and focused became just as important as making birdies — and the leaderboard reflects a day where good scores were hard to come by.

🏌️ U21 Boys – Tie at the Top

The Boys U21 division saw a tight battle at the top, with Thaddeus Huainigg and Filip Lukáš finishing the day tied for the lead on -2 (70).

Huainigg produced an impressive round featuring five birdies, showing great control despite the difficult weather. Alongside him, Lukáš matched the score with an attacking performance that included six birdies, the most in the field, to keep himself at the top heading into Day 2.

Just behind the leaders, a trio of players sit tied for third place on +1 (73): Thomas De Klerk, Konrad Schliep and Leopold Von Kuensberg Sarre. All three handled the conditions well and remain well placed as the tournament continues.

With several players close behind, the Boys U21 leaderboard remains wide open after Day 1.

🏌️‍♀️ U21 Girls – Wong Takes Early Lead

In the Girls U21 division, Sabrina Wong delivered the standout performance of the day to take the early lead after a strong round of -1 (71). Wong recorded five birdies, an excellent achievement in the tough conditions.

Tied for second place on +3 (75) are Alejandra Hernandez Soto and Siria Ballini, both producing steady rounds to keep themselves close to the lead.

In tied fourth place on +6 (78) sit Charlotte Gosling-Evans and Maria Khristenko, both battling hard in the wind and rain to stay in touch with the leading group.

🌧 What’s Coming Up – A Big Day Ahead

With tight leaderboards and difficult conditions expected to continue, Day 2 promises more challenges and plenty of movement across both divisions. Every shot will matter as players look to build momentum in the first Triple A event of the new season.
